Word Wars

So I've found just what I needed to get my butt in gear and write this YA novel. A couple of friends of mine (Mark Henry and Jaye Wells) thought it would motivate all of us if we turned our writing into a little competition. And Word Wars was born. We've been meeting each weekday morning when Mark gets his Seattle behind out of bed, usually 10am our time, and we set a word goal for the day. We each type in our beginning word count and then the countdown begins. We type fast and furiously for thirty minutes then stop and check in. Everyone posts their new word count and the person with the lowest is the loser and has to tell an embarassing secret. It's a very motivating way to get a book done. We do several sessions of word wars, and by the end of each day I've had a minimum of ten pages. If I keep at it, I'll have this book finished before Christmas, which is perfect timing. So all of you looking for motivation to get that book finished, hook up with a buddy and start your own round of word wars.

We really need to keep up on that embarrassing secret part. Either that or change it so that the winner has to tell one.

*shakes fist at Jaye*

Jaye should be disqualified. I think she just types one word over and over again so she can beat us.
