Seriously, working from home plays havoc with my ability to tell time or to know what day it is. I'll be plodding along, lost in a story, and then all of a sudden the garbage truck goes by and I say, "Crap, it's Thursday," and the garbage won't get picked up again. Except it's Wednesday, and the garbage truck was actually driving through the neighborhood to pick up the recycling. Then I sigh in relief, because, hey, I don't recycle. And I don't feel guilty about that at all because I can't even figure out what day it is, much less remember to seperate my plastics and papers.
ANYWAY...
I've been a little down lately, going through writer's depression, which means I've finished my previous project and am floundering around with a lot of ideas but no actual words on the paper. It's only a feeling that other writers can understand. It's like being homeless, or leaving your house dressed in a suit and heels but not wearing any underpants. It's not a comfortable feeling to have your nether regions flapping in the breeze. (There's a parallel there somewhere about story ideas rattling around in my brain, but I've lost focus and can't remember what it is).
So I had a brilliant idea this morning to get me motivated. I TURNED THE INTERNET OFF. Amazing, right? Who woulda thunk? The Internet is no good for me. If I had a typewriter instead of a computer, I'd probably have twenty books written. It's an addiction. And I kicked it in the teeth this morning. I got eight pages written before eleven o'clock. I might even write more this afternoon. Who knows? The whole world has been opened up to me. Or I might even do some grown up things like laundry or dishes (though probably not because I try to limit that stuff to once a week, and I've already filled my quota). And tonight when I go to bed, I won't feel guilty for not getting enough pages done. Let's see how long I can keep it up.
But seriously, don't hold me to that or anything. I fall off the wagon frequently.
Anyway, with the start of a new book means the start of a new playlist. So here it is!
1. Kings of Leon
2. Anna Nalick
3. Radiohead
4. Sheila Nicholls
5. Muse
6. Brandi Carlile
7. The Black Keys
8. Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2
I'll always take suggestions for new music. Load me up!
